Being an upright animal, our body is constantly in a battle against gravity! A frequent casualty is the soft disc material that separates each spinal bone. Excessive pressure from our weight, from sitting (postural stress) or sometimes from trauma/ injury can increase the pressure on a weakened disc. In many cases, the soft pulpy center of the disc can bulge out beyond the normal boarders of the disc. That can be result in back pain, leg pain (Sciatica), numbness, tingles or muscle weakness. If you’re suffering from any disc condition, then Health Quest can help those in Kamloops and the surrounding area!
Spinal Decompression Therapy
Spinal Decompression Therapy is the safest and most effective treatment for vertebral disc pathology without the use of drugs or surgery. Decompression reduces the pressure inside a disc, creating a vacuum to retract bulging disc material and facilitate the transfer of fluids, oxygen and nutrients into the disc for healing. This also reduces the pressure that the bulging material puts on the nerve and provides relief from nerve impingement. SpineMED technology has been designed to facilitate the natural healing of the disc for long-term stability and provide an alternative to surgery for those who qualify.
We use the latest technology to help relieve the effects of disc symptoms due to herniated or degenerated vertebral discs. Because discs are not fed by blood vessels and under constant weight-bearing pressure, they are unlikely to heal on their own. By gently and specifically “Decompressing” the damaged disc, we reduce the pressure to enable the absorption of Oxygen, nutrients and water to thicken the disc and promote healing. This is called “Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression”.
How It Works
You will remain fully clothed and lie comfortably on your back with your knees up on a bolster. Then, ever so slowly, there will be a stretching sensation in your spine at the level of the disc issue (Decompression). The disc will be stretched (Decompressed) for one minute, then relaxed for 30 seconds for twenty cycles (30 minutes). The Decompression process is quite pleasant, even relaxing as is relieves the pressure on the nerves and the related symptoms. As patients relax into the process, the table increases the force of distraction over time, the pressure in the disc is relieved, nutrients, water and Oxygen are absorbed and the disc will become thicker and healthier.
While Decompression improves the condition of the disc, augmenting the treatment program with Chiropractic care, Massage Therapy and Cold Laser will expedite healing, improve biomechanical function, reduce pain, swelling and inflammation.
